Elmia Agriculture, Livestock & Technology 2013

Elmia Agriculture, Livestock & Technology 2013 is one of the larger agricultural fairs taking place in Sweden and focuses on creating a common meeting place for Sweden’s farmers. This year’s edition attracted 22 000 visitors during 4 intensive days of exhibitions, conferences and seminars.

Deemed as a suitable forum for its purpose, JTI - Swedish Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and Enterprise Europe Network/Swerea Swecast in Jönköping decided to host a Baltic Manure final dissemination seminar to present the results of the project and invite farmers, policy makers, academics and researchers to take part in an afternoon full of panel discussions and presentations. The seminar was held around the theme of “the future of manure management from a Baltic Sea perspective” and attracted around 50 people to discuss lessons learned from the Baltic Manure project and also inviting the industry’s perspective on the future of manure management.

Earlier during the day an excursion with 12 participants had also been arranged to a biogas plant outside Jönköping. The biogas plant uses animal manure as source of feed for the production of biogas and adjacent to the plant, an ecological vegetable farmer was also situated and the farmer’s greenhouse received heating from the biogas plant – thus giving the visitors a chance to see a complete systems solution and emphasizing the need for more of similar, smart and local solutions for farmers in order to pursue organic growth.
